The enhanced greenhouse effect and rising sea levels

With increasing levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, more infrared radiation is absorbed and re-emitted causing global temperatures to rise. This is known as anthropogenic climate change as it has been caused by humans.

Figure 2 shows how sea levels have risen since 1993. How does climate change cause sea level rise? There are two main reasons:

Ice melt: when freshwater that has been frozen on land in the form of glaciers and ice sheets is warmed by increasing temperatures, it melts and increases the amount of water in the oceans.
