Brent Cross Town regeneration

Will it succeed?

The regeneration of urban areas is an important theme of GCSE geography. This article looks at Brent Cross Town in northwest London and asks you to think about what makes a regeneration project successful. Why is regeneration needed? What is planned? What has already happened?

In northwest London, £5 billion is being spent on a huge regeneration project. This vast sum is being spent on building a new 75-acre neighbourhood in the London borough of Brent. The area was previously known as Brent Cross South but is being renamed ‘Brent Cross Town’ as a new park town is being built. While regeneration is constantly happening across London, what makes this project stand out is the focus on creating a park town — a new area with green parks and playing fields at the centre.
