In 1970, a revolutionary initiative was launched by Trinity College Cambridge to open the UK’s first science park. Based on close cooperation between company scientists and the cutting-edge research being undertaken at the university, its purpose was to encourage the development of the new technologies which were emerging at the time.
The site chosen was derelict ground owned by Trinity College, on the northern edge of Cambridge about 6 km from the university, to enable companies to become involved with and take advantage of the scientific research taking place there. This is the main reason why so many firms have chosen this location for their business.
