Developing extended answers about climate change

Questions that carry 6 marks or more need an extended written answer, requiring you to develop an argument and use evidence to support it. This article will guide you through three stages for questions about climate change.

T he first stage in developing an answer is always to look at the question, and start to break it down, as shown in Box 1. Look carefully at the key terms in the question, in this example there are four.

This question is about assessing the economic impacts — so not just explaining what the impacts are, but making a judgement about how serious they are. It’s that judgement that will earn you the higher marks.
