Writing case study answers about tropical cyclones

Examiners often comment on the need for GCSE candidates to include detail in their answers, such as named examples or specific data. This does not mean learning huge amounts of material when you revise — just a few facts and figures to bring your answer alive. This ‘Improve Your Grade’ will show you how to develop examples in exam answers about tropical cyclones.

‘Tropical cyclone’ is a term used to describe storms which develop over tropical or sub-tropical seas. As energy builds up, winds increase in strength until they reach 118 km/h, after which tropical cyclones are known as either hurricanes, typhoons or cyclones, depending upon global location.
