The Scalpel

A new era of high rise

 

On 11 June 2013 the City of London granted permission for the construction of a 32-storey building on Lime Street. Nicknamed ‘The Scalpel,’ this building comprises office space and apartments. The Scalpel has become popular because of its angular shape and prime location next to other skyscrapers.

The reason for the novel design is due to the need to maintain sightlines of St Paul’s Cathedral and other iconic buildings. There are various preserved corridors crossing London that allow famous buildings to be seen from as far away as Primrose Hill and Richmond Park (see Figure 1).
