Performing a risk assessment

Geographical fieldwork is an important part of your GCSE geography. One element of a fieldwork enquiry is a risk assessment. This article explains why risk assessments are important and provides tips for how to carry one out.

Go to www.hoddereducation.co.uk/wideworldextras for homework on this topic.

Risk assessments are carried out when planning fieldwork to ensure it will be as safe as possible for those involved. Risk assessments will differ depending on where you carry out your fieldwork, from a town centre to a coastline or a river. All fieldwork will have some hazards associated with it, and as a geographer it is important you can identify these and plan measures to make sure you stay safe.
