Is a wind of change blowing?

The UK’s energy-generating system provided more green electricity to homes and businesses over the summer of 2017 due to an increase in wind and solar power. Is it time to start embracing the full potential of offshore wind?

In the summer of 2017, almost 52% of the UK’s power demand was met by low-carbon sources such as renewable energy and nuclear power, compared to around 35% in 2013. Much of this development is the result of the exploitation of offshore wind. After all, 40% of all wind energy in Europe blows over the UK. We now have 50 offshore wind farms generating 5.1 gigawatts, with a further 4.5 gigawatts under construction.
