C ontrolled assessment is a piece of work carried out as part of your GCSE geography course. Depending on the exam board, it counts for between 15% and 25% of your final grade. Most pieces of work are up to 2,000 words long. Some of it is completed in class time and the rest under supervised conditions, like an exam.

Your teacher decides what topic you will study, where you will study it and the overall aim. There are two phases to the controlled assessment:
