We remember images from the large destructive earthquakes that hit the headlines, such as the one that devastated Haiti in 2010 and the one that caused the Japanese tsunami of 2011. What we are less aware of are the many earthquakes that occur daily around the world. Some are destructive but do not make our news, and many are relatively gentle. By looking at maps of their distribution we can begin to understand the geography of tectonic margins and get a better sense of the earth being in a state of constant crustal movement.
This Wideworldweb is based on an app for iPad and iPhone. However, there are similar free earthquake apps for Android phones and tablets. Go to your app store and search for what you can download for free.
