Using models and theories

This article illustrates how to use a model or theory to structure and inform your analysis

Relating your own fieldwork data to a model or theory that you have studied in class can demonstrate strong understanding and application of the subject, together with the ability to think independently. Accurate analysis referring to theories or models is highly credited by examiners and will enable you to score good marks in your coursework.

The example used in this Fieldwork Focus analyses an urban land-use transect, with reference to the Burgess (concentric) and Hoyt (sector) models of urban land use.
