Tally counts and field sketches

This Fieldwork Focus looks at two contrasting types of data collection, tally counts and field sketches, both of which are useful in GCSE fieldwork projects. Tally counts are a quantitative technique, generating large amounts of numerical data, and field sketches help to give a visual impression of locations and features

To collect data successfully it is important to think carefully about your research design and to explain this in your methods section. In order to get high marks you should incorporate a variety of data collection techniques and justify why they are appropriate to your study.

Any difficulties you encountered and the limitations of your approach should be acknowledged in an evaluation section, either accompanying or immediately after your conclusion.
