Wind farms

The policy in the UK of increasing the percentage of energy we obtain from renewable sources is leading to the construction of many new wind farms. These can generate local controversy if the landscape value is seen to be affected. The website in focus in this Wideworldweb looks at where wind farms have been built, and where new projects are proposed.

Access the website of the British Wind Energy Association at www.bwea.com and select <Onshore wind> from the menu bar on the left. The introduction to wind power summarises the growth of renewable energy and details the UK government’s aim to generate 15% of the UK’s energy needs from sustainable sources by 2020, with most energy likely to come from wind. The website indicates where in the UK wind energy is being generated, the pattern of proposed wind turbines, and which locations might be suitable for wind farms in the future.
