This Fieldwork Focus looks at two different types of data collection: flow surveys and observations. Flow surveys are a quantitative technique, generating large amounts of numerical data. Observations, on the other hand, are a qualitative technique, where you describe in detail what you can see.
To collect successful data it is important to think carefully about your research design and to explain this in your method section. However, in order to gain high marks you should also justify why the techniques are appropriate to your study, together with describing any difficulties or limitations you encounter. This can be included in an evaluation section, either accompanying or immediately after your conclusion.
