■ Research methods

This article is based on 7 months of ethnography with people who were in receipt of emergency food aid on a daily basis. My research involved male participants. The aim here is to explore the positionality issues I encountered as a young female ethnographer studying an all-male group. This included: sexist treatment, sexual and romantic offers, and power imbalances in the researcher and participant relationship. I try to explain below how I dealt with the issues mentioned above.
