■ Theory

Theory, including social theory, is an unavoidable fact of life. We all theorise informally about society to make sense of our everyday activities. For example, we expect institutions and individuals to behave in relatively predictable ways. We also reflect on how changes in the world around us are likely to impact on us and how to negotiate them. In the process of this reflection, we do our own everyday theorising.
