Separating boys and girls at school

Does sending your child to a single-sex school offer any advantages?

This is a subject of considerable debate, and the variables involved are sufficiently complex to make it difficult to come to a firm conclusion. To begin with, it is not always as clear as one would think to determine what a singlesex school is.

Some schools, ostensibly offering mixed (co-educational) education, in practice separate boys and girls for all aspects of their learning. Such schools include some faith schools offering an Islamic, Jewish or evangelical Christian education. This issue was recently brought to the fore with a case at the Court of Appeal.
