Here, we explore recent data from the World Economic Forum charting the size of the gender gap over time and across 144 countries

The World Economic Forum (WEF) has been reporting on the Gender Gap Index (GGI) in its global Gender Gap Report for 10 years now. The index uses four categories to rank 144 countries on the basis of gender equality:

• The first category or sub-index is economic participation and opportunity, which includes female workforce participation, working in high-skilled jobs, and wage equality.
