Public opinion and faith schools in Britain

In Britain, education has historically been an important area of debate between the differing religious traditions. But is there public support for state funding of religious schools?

Recent governments have promoted the setting-up of more faith schools. Here, Ben Clements explores attitudes towards the public funding of faith schools, examining the degree of support with reference to a variety of social factors. Overall, a majority of those questioned are against such public funding. However, some differences appear depending on, for example, the religious faith concerned, gender, and country within Great Britain.
