What does it mean?
Hegemony refers to a situation in which one group in society achieves dominance over both politics and ideas. The dominance need not be total. For example, there may be political concessions made to non-dominant groups, but the dominant group still retains overwhelming power and control. In sociology, the concept is associated with the work of the Italian Marxist political thinker Antonio Gramsci (1891–1937).
