This new column helps you practise the data skills you will need to demonstrate in your sociology exams

Same-sex weddings became legal in March 2014 and so the data on family types are due to shift once more

This exercise gives you the opportunity to practise all three of the examinable skills in the new specifications. The questions test your knowledge and understanding of some sociological concepts (AO1), and also ask you to apply the evidence shown in Table 1 to answer particular questions (AO2). Finally, you will need to analyse and evaluate the data to assess the extent to which they do or do not support the view that marriage is of declining importance (AO3).
