Embracing two worlds

What sort of identity issues affect young south-Asian women born and growing up in Britain today? And what coping mechanisms do these young women adopt to embrace two different worlds?

The research described in this article gives an insight into some of the problems faced by young British Asian women.

The interesting concept of ‘hybrid identity’ is introduced, which encapsulates the idea of living in two different cultures. The young women taking part in the research adapted in different ways to having both a British and an Asian identity, and having to move between ‘two worlds’.
