Understanding Mormonism

As with Jehovah’s Witnesses, we think we know more about Mormonism than is perhaps the case. Jon Mayled clarifies the facts

Mormonism is the religion of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons). The word ‘Mormon’ comes from the religious text the Book of Mormon. Mormonism is now part of the Latter-Day Saint movement, and along with other groups it shares the use of the Bible, the Book of Mormon and the Doctrine and Covenants. However, it differs from other groups in its use of the Pearl of Great Price as a sacred text and its teachings of eternal marriage, eternal progression and plural marriage. Its beliefs are summarised in the 13 Articles of Faith (Box 1).

1 We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
