Interest in Wardle’s documentary highlights the ongoing fascination people have with the nature–nurture debate. However, a lot of what the layperson believes about nature and nurture is now outdated.

‘Nature’ and ‘nurture’ are themselves misleading terms. The nature–nurture debate, as it exists in contemporary psychology, is rather more complicated than the version that tends to be considered in everyday life when we look at identical twins and triplets and marvel at their similarities.
