Research methods is the most important topic in your exam. It accounts for at least 30% of your final mark — more than any other topic you study. Yet students lose many marks due to relatively simple mistakes and misunderstandings. The purpose of this article is to highlight some of the most common areas in which applied research methods marks are dropped and thus help you boost your marks in your end of course exam.

Before you answer an exam question, you need to be clear about what kind of question it is. For example, in the context of the personal investigations, you may be asked HOW and/or WHY you did something.
