The more you know, the less you think you know

Research suggests that the above statement is true. It is also suggests that the reverse is true: the less you know, the more you think you know.

A recent study on autism asked participants to complete two questionnaires. One measured actual knowledge about the symptoms of autism. The questionnaire contained 25 symptoms, some of which were related to autism and some related to other conditions. Participants had to rate how likely the symptoms were to be related to autism. The second questionnaire asked participants to estimate their own score and to rate their performance in relation to others.
