Can I let you in on a secret? I made a mess of the first draft of this article. How? Why? Well, I tried to shoehorn in every evaluation tip in my toolbox for effective evaluation. I overcomplicated the article and made it harder to read, and understand, than it needed to be.

Students sometimes have a tendency to make evaluation harder than it needs to be. For example, I’ve had students in the past who’ve tried to memorise the evaluation points in their textbook and then felt overwhelmed at how much there was to remember, and confused about how to turn points they had memorised into elaborated, articulate evaluation points.
