Recent brain injury research

A range of factors appear to impact recovery from Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs). As reported in the article above, a number of studies have linked age and educational level to recovery. Fraser et al. (2019) found that younger patients with higher IQ had better outcomes than older patients with lower IQs, while other studies (for example Schneider et al. 2019) have linked recovery to educational level.

Another factor affecting recovery seems to be biological sex, with men being more likely to make good recoveries from mild TBI and women more likely to recover well from more severe injuries (Gupte et al. 2019).
