A DAY IN THE LIFE

Educational psychologist

Karen O’Farrell outlines a typical day in her working life as an educational psychologist

I currently work full-time for a local authority as an educational psychologist (EP). Each EP working in my local authority has a ‘patch’ of schools/colleges within the city and they act as the ‘Link EP’ for these settings. Each school has a budget they can use to buy in the services of their EP.

The Link EP is the main point of contact between the schools/ colleges and the educational psychology service. Working with different educational establishments can create opportunities to consider varied ways of working, getting to know the values and ethos of the different settings and considering, for example, whole-school approaches to learning and wellbeing.
