Extended response key questions

Olivia Bowers looks at strategies to improve your ERQ marks

Students often feel challenged by Extended Response Questions (ERQs), for example questions worth 8 marks. When such questions are also linked to a ‘discuss key question’ instruction, students can feel even more overwhelmed. They may worry about what assessment objectives they need to address, how to structure their response and how to achieve full marks.

Approaching ‘discuss key question’ ERQs does require a slightly different approach to how you may tackle other types of ERQs or questions with different command terms. However, discuss key question ERQs are often not as challenging as they may initially seem and need not make you feel anxious.
