Cultural bias and ethnocentrism

The aim of psychology is to understand and explain human thinking and behaviour. In order to do that, researchers need to consider the factors that lead to diversity between people around the world. Every person’s behaviour is shaped by a range of variables, such as innate biological factors and the family environment they were brought up in. A major factor that people are influenced by is the multitude of behaviours that are specific to their cultural group. In order to fulfil the aim of psychology, researchers need to account for the ways in which cultural differences affect our thinking and behaviour.
