Adrian Owen is a British neuroscientist who is currently a professor at Western University, Ontario, Canada. He has been called ‘the mindreader’ because his work focuses on finding ways to communicate with people in the ‘grey zone’ (i.e. a minimally conscious state).
Cara Flanagan (CF) Before getting onto the ‘grey zone’, let’s start at the beginning. After your first degree in psychology you focused on neuroscience, with a special interest in the parts of the brain involved in working memory. Many A-level students study working memory but perhaps don’t experience much fascination with it. Can you explain what led you to take an interest in the topic?
