Evaluation and discussion skills (AO3)

Munveen Bhandal talks us through the skills that students find most difficult to get their heads around

As a teacher I can testify that the evaluation/discussion element of extended-writing responses is the one that students find most difficult to execute effectively. This is perfectly understandable, as it is something that you have to develop as you progress through the psychology course.

In this article, I will focus on the AO3 element in two responses to the same exam question, demonstrating the two skills needed for a top-level discussion: ‘thorough’ and ‘effective’ (the marking criteria for top-band AO3).
