If you have ever been to a music festival, concert, public sporting event or political protest, then you have taken part in a mass gathering. Mass gatherings are events where large numbers of people come together for a common purpose. While mass gatherings are intended to be enjoyable, positive experiences, they also involve a number of risks. For example, large gatherings of people are perfect environments for contagious diseases to spread. That is precisely why so many mass gatherings around the world were cancelled in 2020 and 2021 — to slow the spread of Covid-19. However there are other ways in which our behaviour during these events can put ourselves and others at risk.
