You are probably already familiar with some of the ways in which a knowledge of biology can assist in our understanding of mind and behaviour. For example, psychologists study patients who have experienced brain damage in accidents and examine such things as deficits in their perception and memory. Others study disease states of the brain, such as Alzheimer’s disease, and examine the consequences for patients’ cognition.

This article is designed to give some less familiar examples of the way in which biology and psychology can work together to generate understanding.
