WJEC/Eduqas: research methods

Cristal Llewellyn looks at how WJEC (and Eduqas) define key research methods terms and how your knowledge of these terms is examined

Your knowledge of research methods — love them or hate them — is the key to your exam success. That is because, as you no doubt know, for the WJEC exam 40% of your total A-level mark (33.3% for Eduqas) is based on your answers to research methods questions. (It’s actually more than this because you use research methods concepts when answering other questions.)

Candidates are often asked to define terminology, sometimes with examples. Many lose easy marks on this, so it pays to revise such knowledge carefully. First of all you need to know what the key terms are. The WJEC/Eduqas specifications list the key terms you need to know. Some examples are given in Box 1.
