The Social Identity Approach (SIA) is comprised of Social Identity Theory (SIT) and Self-Categorisation Theory (SCT). It is a large and influential theory of how people’s thoughts, attitudes and behaviours are affected by their social group memberships.

Henri Tajfel developed SIT in the early 1970s.
