AsI write this article, BBC Radio are reporting that Extinction Rebellion are engaged in a nonviolent protest at Shell Oil’s Aberdeen headquarters. Such actions are not new. Over recent years we have become used to the sight of organised groups of climate protestors in our city centres and on our television screens. Quite apart from how these protests make us feel (perhaps frustrated because our journey home is made more difficult or guilty at our recent long-haul holiday flights), we might also ask ourselves: ‘Does this type of action actually make a difference?’
