Abraham Maslow said, ‘The world will either be saved by psychologists or it won’t be saved at all’ (Maslow 1956). This sounds like a very grand claim. We don’t often think of psychologists as heroes and heroines who will save the planet. Surely that is the job of politicians and business leaders and other very powerful people. But maybe the idea isn’t so silly at all, and maybe this is a useful exercise for your studies in psychology.
The question is: ‘What are the benefits we get from psychology in our world?’ I think that exploring this question will help you think differently about the subject and give you some ideas for evaluation.
