OCR ‘plan your own study’ questions

Anna Horwitz provides some useful tips for OCR students in tackling this type of research methods question

OCR Component 1 (H167/01 and H567/01) Section B is made up of questions relating to ‘Research design and response’. This means that this section of the exam will give you a scenario (or a stem) of a fictional piece of research and give you various questions to answer where you are expected to apply your knowledge of research methods to the particular scenario. The exam board wants to know that you haven’t just learned information off by heart but that you really understand and can use this information by applying your knowledge to a given situation. This is a much higher-level skill than just reproducing knowledge. Of the three exam papers, Component 1 is the heaviest weighted in terms of AO2 (application of knowledge), so you need to be prepared to explicitly apply your knowledge to the scenarios given.
