Every summer I see the same thing happen again and again — hardworking, intelligent and dedicated students having trouble in examinations because the pressure of the exam hall makes the shutters come down and their minds go blank. Material that they know and understand well gets no further than the tips of their tongues.
This can happen to the best of students and such individuals often report to me that the situation would have been remedied had a small number of key trigger words come to mind. These trigger words would have brought back much of the required information and would have led to whole essays being written. Frustratingly, it is such trigger words that flood back as soon as they leave the exam hall and the pressure comes off.
