Our memory is of vital importance to us. In the absence of memory, we would in many ways be like newborn babies. For example, we would know nothing of our past and we would be unable to speak to others or understand what they were saying. In some ways, indeed, we would be in a worse position than newborn babies because we would not learn or remember anything from our experience.
