‘Who on earth has stolen my psychology book?’

A mother and daughter share their experiences of studying psychology at the same time. We hear from Diana and Rosie Dixon, two generations of the same family sharing a love of psychology

Too old to go to college? I thought so on my first day at Swindon New College with the other A-level psychology students. But I soon felt more at home.

Studying the same subject as Rosie, my 19-year-old daughter, has proved a lot of fun, as well as stretching the rusty brain matter with a subject I find totally fascinating. I was dubious at first as I did not want to encroach on her space. In fact our studies have provided a dialogue which (for a change) does not contain the words, ‘No, you can’t have more money!’ but instead is a positive and shared academic interest. For example, family hours have been spent dissecting the worst criminal minds, hotly debating adolescent gender roles and sharing concerns about poor little Albert’s plight.
