Has anyone ever said to you ‘You have a lovely personality’? No? Me neither, but never mind. When we do say that to other, and clearly nicer people, what do we mean by it? What is a personality? And is the personality that we observe the same as what the person really is?
To psychologists, personality is a collection of cognitions (thoughts), affective responses (emotions) and patterns of behaviour that are unique to a person. Psychologists have produced numerous scales that attempt to measure different dimensions of personality.
