Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), also called cognitive therapy, is a form of talk therapy. It is a highly researched and effective treatment for psychiatric disorders and psychological problems, and used around the world.
In CBT, therapists teach their clients specific skills that they can use for the rest of their lives. These skills involve emotional regulation, changing inaccurate or unhelpful thinking, modifying beliefs, relating to others in different ways and changing behaviour. Using these skills, clients experience a lasting improvement in how they feel and in how they function.
