Psychology Applied Learning Scenarios

When PALS really are your friend

Jock McGinty explains how to apply your psychological knowledge in exams

One of the central skills required in any psychology exam is the ability to apply psychological theory to real-world situations. PALS (Psychology Applied Learning Scenarios) are at hand to help you.

The approach, developed by Lin Norton at Liverpool Hope University, uses case studies that represent situations that professional psychologists typically face every day. Your task is to come up with solutions. PALS can take many forms, with a focus on applying knowledge to novel sources. Two examples are given here along with ways in which to tackle them that allow you to develop independent learning.
