I don’t know if you have ever experienced this, but when I tell people that I study psychology they often think I can read minds. Of course psychologists can’t read minds. Or can they?
In fact you are all mind readers, whether you have studied the subject or not. If you weren’t, you would find life very difficult. For example, when you walk down a busy street how often do you physically bump into someone? Rarely, I would guess. The trick in not bumping into someone is to estimate how fast they are travelling and what direction they are going in. That way you can compute whether your paths are likely to collide. This is quite clever but it is also something a fairly basic computer can do.
