As an examiner I find it sad that students fail to achieve high marks when writing evaluation (AO2) simply because they do not engage with the material they presented in the description (AO1) part of the question. Their evaluation is then described as basic and, as a result, achieves only 50% or less of the available marks. This usually prevents these students from achieving better than a grade C.
So what is the difference between basic and effective evaluation? The answer lies in using context rather than generic evaluation points that could apply to any study.
