I am interested in how we perceive the world, particularly in the context of sport. I study not only basic processes such as how we catch a ball, but also how we detect when someone is trying to deceive us about whether or not they have been fouled in football, or deceive us about the direction in which they are going to hit a ball.

In this article I hope to persuade you that the vast majority of psychologists who study perception are wrong; not just wrong in detail, but are fundamentally mistaken in their approach. One of the reasons why I find psychology exciting is that so many of the fundamental questions are still so open.
