For some students, the obvious next step after school is university. However, the introduction of tuition fees for university students has meant that more students are questioning whether or not university is worth it — little wonder when the average student ‘debt sentence’ is 11 years. This is the time it takes to pay off your student debt arising from tuition fees — usually £9,000–£12,000 per year (source: Student Debt Survey 2011).

Even before the rise in fees, many students felt that they had had enough of studying and/or that university had little to offer them. This article looks at the pros and cons of university and the range of other possibilities.
